What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a professional and collaborative process between a therapist and a client in which the therapist provides emotional support and guidance. The therapist uses specific techniques to address problems and difficulties of a psychological or emotional nature.
Therapy aims to help clients improve their mental health and relationships with others, develop healthy coping skills, cope with stress and difficulties in life, and reach their personal potential.
Unlike counseling, psychotherapy is a long-term process.
How do I know if I need therapy or if therapy is right for me?
Deciding to start therapy and determining whether it is right for you is a personal choice and can vary based on individual circumstances. Psychotherapy can be just as appropriate for someone with a medical or psychiatric diagnosis as for someone without a mental or other disorder. However, there are some signs and indications that therapy would be beneficial:
- Persistent emotional and mental difficulties – dealing with them affects your well-being and daily functioning
- Inability to deal effectively with problems and difficult situations – when problems overwhelm you and you see no way out
- Need for support and understanding – in therapy, I can provide you with a confidential and safe environment where you can express yourself freely and explore your own emotional needs
- Desire for personal growth and development – therapy can facilitate your personal growth and reach your full potential by exploring your personality, past, mechanisms, and personal abilities.
- Persistent discomfort and blockages in life – through therapy, I can help you identify the source of your blockages, repetitions, and patterns in life, as well as find a new way to move forward
- Trauma or traumatic past; coming from a dysfunctional family environment - in this case, therapeutic work can help you heal the trauma, and gain a deep understanding of the past and how it has impacted your current life. Through therapy, you can end up reorienting yourself towards the manifestation of a healthy life.
The therapy I offer is not only related to solving or treating problems, but encourages and promotes the development of the individual in all aspects of his life. I believe that every person is entitled to experience a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment in life, and I hope that therapy brings these experiences into the lives of those I work with. I adapt this process to the individual needs and wishes of each client, which is why I always set therapeutic goals together with the client.
How can therapy help you?
Support provided in a therapeutic setting is not only appropriate for people experiencing major life changes and difficulties but is particularly valuable. Here are some benefits that the therapy I practice can bring in these situations:
- Understanding and accepting change: I encourage a constructive perspective on change and help people understand that change is a normal part of life and can be an opportunity for growth and development. They can help you accept and adapt to change, get through transitions well, and find constructive ways to deal with difficulties.
- Exploration of personal resources and abilities: I focus on identifying and developing the individual's personal resources and abilities. They can help you discover and use inner and outer resources to cope with changes and difficulties.
- Improving interpersonal relationships: I place particular importance on interpersonal relationships and how they can influence mental health and adaptability to change. In the process, we can work together to develop healthy communication, conflict resolution, and effective interpersonal skills.
- Increasing confidence and self-esteem: As a therapist, I encourage the development of healthy self-esteem and self-confidence. By exploring and understanding your own capabilities and resources, you can gain confidence in your abilities to cope with life's major changes and challenges.
- Managing emotions and stress: I can provide a safe space for you to explore and express your emotions about loss, change, and difficulties. I use effective techniques and strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other emotions associated with these situations, such as anger, guilt, shame, or inadequacy. These techniques often bring information from the unconscious to the conscious and thus the client gains more clarity and self-understanding
